“Managing your boss” has nothing to do with manipulating or misleading your boss. Maintaining a good relationship with your boss or supervisor is essential to be effective in your work. “Managing your boss” has to do with consciously working with your superior officer to obtain the best possible results for the organization, the boss and yourself.

To manage your boss, you must deliberately contribute to his/her success. Your boss is under pressure to succeed. Every boss appreciates honest contributions and a good way to manage your boss is to contribute to his/her success. Another way to manage your boss is to understand his work style and be sensitive to your boss’ expectations of you.

It the understanding of your boss that can lead to your outstanding.

Please note that the workplace strategies for bosses are when in charge, they ponder; when in trouble,they delegate and when in doubt they mumble.

Also, an important thing to know is that when you manage yourself well, chances are that you will be able to manage your relationship with your boss.  Effective managers take time and effort to manage not only relationships with their subordinates but also with their bosses.
