Ability is what you’re capable of doing, motivation determines what you do and attitude determines how well you do it. For every palatable position, there is always someone waiting to grab it. Managers should understand that in order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different and to be different at work place, managers need to be inspired otherwise they get expired.

The fact that manager’s assistants are interested in their position often causes conflict amongst executives. The best way to manage such conflict is to always remember that at some point, they were also interested in someone’s position.

Managers should see themselves as leaders at any time. And as leaders, they should see themselves stay behind the flock, letting the nimble go out ahead whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.

They should know that respect for themselves guides their morals while respect for others guide their manners. And that an employee’s motivation is a direct result of the sum of interactions with his or her manager.

Hostile managers could be regarded as bad managers who can take good staff members and destroy them, causing the best employees to flee and the remainder to lose all motivation.



He who dreads hostility too much is unfit to rule
