The conventional definition of management is getting work done through people, but real management is developing people through work, The MODES of management are made up of the following words: Motivation, Organization, Decision-making, Delegation, Education, Ethics, Stress management, and Speaking. Details of MODES of management as discussed below, are used for successful people management.
Motivation: Every supervisor knows that motivation is the single most important skill in managing people. It is the art of having people do what you want them to do.
Organization: This tool channels the energy that motivation releases. Ability to organize yourself and others is the sine qua non to successful management.
Decision-making: An inevitable role of all managers. In fact most executives are paid to take decisions. The future of any organization is shaped by decision-makers.
Delegation: Andrew Carnegie once said, “No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself, or to get all the credit for doing it.” By delegating, you free yourself of routine duties and also train others to do your work in your absence.
Education: Feedback is one aspect of a manager’s process of educating his people. Coaching, orientation and briefing are other forms of education in the workplace.
Ethics: The “marginal giant” most often ignored. As today’s thought goes, ethics is not only fundamental, but a manager’s career depends on the trust he earns from people.
Stress: Workplace can be a stressor. Managing stress is an important skill managers must have. Stress can be the single greatest danger to any executive and workers.
Speaking: Oral communication with staff and in the public is vital in the day-to-day management of people. Someone said that when your certificate scores you 10%, your profession will score you 15% and your communication, 75%
