Performance management rests mainly on the ability to do more with less and obtaining the best value for organization’s money. Organizations are becoming leaner and leaner due to shortage of money and other resources. However, to remain efficient, organizations should train their staff on managerial and organizational performance and develop a culture where accountability, efficiency and performance are valued.

We must understand that effectiveness and efficiency are not the same; while effectiveness impacts on company growth, efficiency impacts on profitability

The three ways to measure efficiency are;

  • Doing same for less
  • Doing more for same
  • Doing much more for more

Management should note the difference between BUSINESS and BUSYNESS. When many organization assume they are in business, they are actually in busyness.

TAKE AWAY

Performance appraisal isn’t performance management. Never make a mistake of thinking that evaluating or appraising performance is the same as managing performance. It’s not. Evaluating performance is but one part of a performance management system. If you only evaluate performance and don’t do the other part, you’ll fail.
